Hey everyone, it’s been a while.

As another year approaches its final hour, I’m taking the opportunity again to reflect on my creative journey and make changes where they need to happen. Let's do it.

Short summary if you don't care to read the entire thing:

  • Sadly no Pervader update on the horizon.
  • I'm still focusing mostly on doing art.
  • Patreon page is getting reworked soon, switching to focus on my art content, with a monthly subscription model.
  • Exclusive content will be early access to my illustrations, unreleased sketches, smaller paintings, extras etc. Vote on what you want me to draw.

Pervader

It’s been almost two years since the last update. Since then, every once in a while, I hunker down with my writing and attempt to get the ball rolling, but it just hasn’t worked out yet, I’m sorry to say. A couple of months ago I did manage to get some writing done, which made me feel pretty optimistic about getting an update out soon, but things haven’t evolved from there.

It might just be that this next update in particular is more challenging than any of the previous ones. There’s some significant action and confrontation going on, which is very tough to execute correctly, all while having the evolving relationship dynamics between the main characters brewing in the background, which is also a struggle.

At the same time, I’m coming to terms with the reality that doing Pervader is really just a lot of work, more than feasible for me to keep up at a high quality, at my skill level. I have a lot of creative energy I want to spend, but Pervader hasn’t been the efficient means I thought it would be.

So, I’m not going to obsess over getting Pervader back on schedule. I’ll continue to work on other things, mainly art. When the time comes, maybe once I’ve leveled up my writing and art process, I’ll come back to Pervader and finish it.

Until then…

Focusing on Artwork

I feel pretty good about my creative output over the past couple of years. I feel very motivated to experiment and try different things during illustrations. Every piece is a learning opportunity. That’s also partly what thrust me to start working on Pervader, as a vehicle for my creative development.

I want to keep that momentum going, but I also want to make some adjustments.

Whenever I do commissions, I feel pressured to do my absolute best, pushing everything to look as good as possible. While this produces quality outcomes, it exclusively produces illustrations. I feel like I never sit down and sketch, do a study, or do quick paintings anymore, which isn’t something you should be skipping as an artist.

There’s a lot of room for me to make that kind of content rather than just an illustration once or twice a month. Really, I just want a good balance to my output, but the pressure I put on myself when doing commissions is heavily leaning in one direction.

Patreon Changes

I mentioned it in a previous post, but reworking my Patreon content has been on my to-do list for a while now, so I’m finally committing to it. I’m shifting away from Pervader as a main focus and settling on general artwork content.

Within the next couple of weeks I’ll be redesigning the page, wiping all subscriptions and reworking the tiers, while also switching to a monthly subscription model. If you wish to continue supporting me, you will have to pick a tier again to join.

There is an option for me to migrate everyone to the subscription model, which does give you at least a month’s time to confirm whether you want to stay onboard, but I ultimately decided it’s best to start from a clean slate. It’s a big enough move that warrants a fresh start, and I know only around 25% of you were interested in art content anyway.

Pervader updates will continue to be part of my Patreon content, including giving early access to supporters, but it’s going to take a backseat to other stuff I want to work on.

Patreon Content

I’ve never been too keen on the idea of having full exclusive illustrations locked behind a paywall, so I don’t plan on doing that to start, though I might change my mind on it. For the foreseeable future, any full illustrations that I do will be posted publicly for everyone for free, though I might post stuff to Patreon earlier.

As far as exclusive content though, I would like to share things such as sketches, unfinished artwork, works in progress, teasers, higher resolution versions of my illustrations, alternate versions, maybe art tips or quick rundowns about my art process, things of that nature if people are interested.

Also, as has been the case previously, I’ll be doing polls allowing supporters to vote on what they’d like me to draw.

By the way, I haven’t forgotten about those Alen and Jymsar pics you guys voted on in the last polls, so that’s still on the to-do list!

I’m open to suggestions about what other supporter perks or content you guys would like, so leave a comment if you have any ideas.

Final Thoughts

Although I haven’t used Patreon for a long time now, I want to thank everyone again for their generous support over the years. You’ve all shown that Pervader is a cool story worth caring about and you want to see it through, and that means the world to me.

I know most of you don’t care too much about my non-Pervader work and won’t care to subscribe, but I want to thank you for supporting me thus far regardless. While updates have slowed to a glacial pace, I’m never giving up on Pervader.

You’ve stood behind me for the entire first half of the story. That much investment cannot fizzle out into nothing. I am committed to see it through till the end, whether it comes sooner or later.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments, and feel free to ask any questions if there’s anything I can clear up for you.

All that’s left to say is I hope you all have a wonderful end of the year full of holiday cheer! 2025 is shaping up to be a challenging period for a lot of people, so stay strong, be good, and believe in better days ahead.

Cheers!
